It has always been an inspiration for the directors of Mollywood to convert inspiring pieces of literature into movies which has been heartly welcomed by the audience.Surprisingly this has resulted in the creation of some of the best landmark movies in the history of Mollywood.Renjith is one such director who has broken the rusty conventional protocols and corroded the core of Mollywood cinemas and has conceived a world class project like 'Kerala Cafe'. His new flick 'Palery Manikyam:Oru Pathira Kolapathakathinte Katha' is based on the writer T P Rajeevan's celebrated novel which comes under the genre of investigative thriller. The super Megastar Mammoothy makes his entry as dual roles. The story is based on the first registered rape murder case in Kerala state in 1957 with its investigation taking place after 52 years.The Twists and Links in the movie are well written and Director Ranjith is successful in maintaining the surprises and suspenses till the very last.

The movie is narrated by Haridas (Mammooty),a private detective and his close friend Saravu(Gauri Manjal), a criminologist who investigates the murder of a 20 yr old girl named Manikyam who lived more than 52 yrs ago. She was found hanging in front of her hut in a small town Palery near Kozhikode. She was brutally raped and killed after a few days of her marriage. Swetha Menon has a crush for Ahmed Haji (double role of Mammooty) who is a rich landlord. Being a staunch womanizer , he does not have concern for anyone's emotions and cruelly treats the poor peasants. The story takes the viewers swinging from the present to the past and past through the present. They probe the investigation to punish the guilty who were led scott free due to lack of evidence.The film depicts the lifestyle of the 1950's.

Mammooty,the veteran actor as usual has done a shining performance after his historic epoch movie Pazhazzi Raja. He has once again shown justice to his acting potentials. Swetha Menon as Cheeru appears really sexy ,brilliant and displays immense talent. Almost all the bunch of new faces act out their scenes very well. Mythili amnd Gawri Munjal appeas beautiful and demanding in their respective roles.While Manoj Pillai has done the cinematography, Vijay Shankar editing is marvellous and seamless. The music and songs have been composed by Sharath.All these have added flavour to the movie.
