‘Girls unlimited’, Sanjiv Sivan’s cluster of documentaries from 25 girls
‘Girls unlimited’ is a cluster of documentaries from 25 girls. Of course, there is enough suspense behind the title ‘Girls Unlimited’. Celebrated documentary maker Sanjiv Sivan recently got the responsibility from the Kerala government to coordinate 25 female film aspirants to make a documentary video which will include around five short films each of 10-minute duration.
All the 25 girls from the state are between 10-17 age-group, and they are selected by short-listing numerous applications from 1,300 talented girls across the state. As per Sanjiv Sivan the 25 girls will be divided into five groups and each group will pen and make a documentary with a common theme and perspective. All the production work including editing will be done by them before submitting their work. Later, the short films will be merged in a way to look as a single documentary.
During the pre-production time, the girls will be lucky to get training classes from veteran movie personalities like bollywood director Subhash Ghai, censor board chair-person and actress Sharmila Tagore and actor Javed Jaffrey. Resul Pookutty, the Oscar laureate, will also be there to join the girls.
The new project from the state will be helpful in bringing together the creativity of talented girls. Most of the documentaries will be based on gender issues, the own experiences of the creators and the impact on them. This will be a medium to express their opinions too, says Sanjiv Sivan, son of director Sivan. He is the younger brother of Santosh Sivan, the celebrated director cinematographer and director Sangeeth Sivan. Sanjiv will play the role of a coordinator and supervisor for the young film makers. As per health minister P.K. Sreemathy, the project is expected to be launched in December last week.
