The Golden Valley of Ponmudi: A hill station of the Capital city

Ponmudi is one among the most prominent hill stations in Kerala. The peculiar feature of Ponmudi hill station is that it is located right in the district of Trivandrum, which is convenient since most of the hill stations in the state are located in remote districts like Idukki and Wayanad.

Ponmudi hill station is a part of the Western Ghats and is located 61 km away from the city of Trivandrum, at an altitude of 3609 feet. These beautiful mist covered hills are located in the Peringamala village of Nedumangadu taluk.

To reach the hill station, tourists can make use of the wide range of hotel facilities in Trivandrum city, many of which are located close to Thampanoor bus stand. A bus from the Thampanoor bus station, Trivandrum takes around 2 hours to reach this hill station. The calm surroundings and pleasant climate remains put throughout the year making the hill station an ideal place for an impulse trip.

On a trip to Ponmudi hill station, one might visit Agastyarkoodam, the tallest point of the Western Ghats or the Falls of Meenmutty. The falls have to be trekked their way to, being located amongst a deep jungle. Both areas however, are a restricted and one would require a permit from the Forest Department to pay a brief visit.

Golden Valley is one of the must-sees of Ponmudi, being surrounded by blue hills and small rivers. Besides the misty mountains, the teeming wildlife and the scores of rivulets Ponmudi is also home to many tea gardens scattered across this small but scenic hill station.
