Chief Justice Mrs. KK Usha has many 'firsts' to her credit. She is the first lady to be appointed to the position of Chief Justice in Kerala High Court from Bar. Justice K Sukumaran and Justice KK Usha are incidentally the first couple in India to be judges of the High Court.

Justice Usha brought more efficiency in the day to day working of the High Court by filling the existing vacancies of the judges and by speeding up the judicial process. She also strengthened the grievance redressal mechanism outside the main system of judiciary.

Even as acting Chief Justice, she created a few waves by flatly refusing to part with judges for judicial enquiry citing the reason that a large number of cases are pending for want of judges.

A champion of free speech, she was a member of the division bench which recently rejected the infamous appeal that curbs should be imposed in press reporting of Court cases.
