AND CAREER
Sibi
George was born to Sri. PT George Podimattathil and Smt. Ammini
George Uzhuthual at Pala on 26th July 1967. He has a brother, Sabu,
and sister, Deepa.
He
had his schooling at Pala St. Vincent English Medium High school
run by the CMI Mission and college education at Pala St. Thomas
College. An outstanding student during his school and college days,
he won the first rank in public examinations and internals.
He
graduated in political science with gold medal in 1988 and completed
his post graduation in 1990 in the same discipline, standing first
in the university and again cornering the gold medal.
To
quote his professor and the present Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi
University Dr. Cyriac Thomas, "the highest marks Sibi scored
in the Post Graduate examination remains unbroken even after a decade."
After
experimenting with Law at the Ernakulam Law College for some time,
Sibi left for Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, toying with the
idea of joining the Indian Civil Service in addition to taking an
M.Phil. Finally, in 1993, he got selected to the prestigious Indian
Foreign Service. But academic pursuit did not stop there and he
is continuing his scholastic pursuits to become a Ph.d holder in
the subject.
He
has also taken two- year postgraduate-diploma in Arabic language
and Culture from the American University in Cairo.
An
avid reader of history, Sibi believes that to understand the present
a proper reading of the past is necessary and the knowledge of history
is highly significant for many reasons.
Before
taking the assignment in Doha, he had served as Assistant Commissioner
(Training) at Shillong in Meghalaya, Ministry of External affairs
in New Delhi and at the embassy of India in Cairo, Egypt.
He
joined the Indian embassy in Doha as the second secretary in 1998
and was promoted as first secretary in 2000. He is due to take up
his new assignment, at the Ministry of external affairs, with in
a couple of months.
