Alternative Technology

Architecture today is dominated by cold, hard, machine made building materials. While all attempts to replace these with a more plastic, environ friendly material have resulted in a negation of structural and technical dimensions of architecture, building with mud offers the unique possibility of a synthesis.

Alternative technology of construction refers to the art and science of construction using natural and eco friendly materials. Mud is the most natural of all building materials. Mud and mud blocks can easily and effectively replace the use of cement and concrete. In the olden days houses were built only with mud and they lasted for a long time withstanding nature's blows. That old technology has been revised and developed to cater to the needs of the modern times.

Habitat Technology Group not only believes in the use of alternative technologies but also is a strong propagator of it. The emphasis on the use of locally available, sustainable and eco friendly materials like sand, straw and mud has earned it a unique identity in the architectural arena.
