Introduction

CP Ravindran, the Production Editor of 'Gulf Times', the oil and gas-rich Qatar's first English newspaper, is one of the senior-most Indian journalists working in the Gulf region.

Ravindran, an inborn journalist with a strong passion for reading and writing is trying to create a new activity oriented social culture and creative style of living in the Middle East with his long vision and perspective. He was instrumental in promoting the socio cultural activities of expatriate Indians in Qatar by way of his sincere support.

He helped to lay the foundation of 'Gulf Times' in 1978 with a band of dedicated journalists from Britain and India. 'Gulf Times' and the other English language newspapers which began their publication in the region in the late 1970's changed the style of Middle Eastern journalism. Ravindran's pioneering contribution in this has been immense.

An accomplished writer in both English and Malayalam, Ravindran has over 30 years' experience in journalism. He has written extensively about Gulf affairs in various publications, including 'India Today-Malayalam '(Gulf edition), Dubai's 'Gulf News' and London's 'Guardian'.

In the 70s and early 80's, several of his Malayalam short stories were published in 'Mathrubhoomi' and 'Kala Kaumudi' weeklies. A collection of his stories has been published under the name of 'Aarambhavum Avasaanavum' (The beginning and the end),a title which he often jokingly refers to as slightly prophetic. He intends to write more fiction in future and is already working on a couple of projects.
