Achievements
Enacted in different roles for about 400 films, played
lead roles and other characters, mostly in Malayalam
films. Displayed an impressive performance in two Tamil
films, one 'Bharatha Vilasom' with Shivaji Ganeshan and the other 'Dharmadurai'
with Rajinikant's father. He also acted in J. Abbas's Hindi film'Saath
Hindusthani' with Utpal Dutt.
Later started directing films and the first film in
that endeavour was 'Priya' in 1968. He started making
his own films, and the first such film was 'Sathi', in which
he played an important role, apart from being its producer and director.
Also made an English film, 'A Sunrise in the West' which
was shot in New Jersey. It was translated to Malayalam
under the title 'Udayam Padinjaru' and telecast by Doordarshan.
In the name of his daughter, he founded the Uma Arts
Studio, Trivandrum in 1975, but was closed down owing
to political pressures and controversies. In 1991, it
was sold to Asianet, a private Television channel.
He was associated with a charitable society, which was
running a school, 'Saraswathi Vidyalaya'. With the sudden
death of N.C. Nair, the then Principal of the School,
Madhu was entrusted the responsibility and is presently the Chairman
of the society.
Apart from making serious films, he also created Children's
films and film 'Mini' is a proof of his penchant for
that. It won the State Award and National Award in 1994.
Another children's film in the making is 'Robo' a science fiction on Robotics.
