Political
life
After
a short stint in the world of law as an advocate, Gauri
Amma stepped into the stormy world of politics.
Her
elder brother Sukumaran was the one to join
the Communist party initially. He was mainly
associated with the trade union movement.
KR Gauri had the opportunity to directly
interact with Sukumaran’s co-workers who visited
her home occasionally.
She
entered into the vibrant world of politics at a time when women
hardly found themselves in politics and thus considered
as sacrilegious and unwarranted.
The
conditions of the peasants those days were extremely miserable.
They were forced to work from dawn to dusk without sufficient
earnings to eke out a decent living.
K R
Gauri was very much concerned over the pathetic
conditions of the poor peasants. She took
up the cause of those peasants
who were wallowing in abysmal poverty
realizing that Communist party was the best forum to work for them.
She
became an active worker of the Communist party and was soon
elevated to its upper strata because of her leadership
qualities and extra ordinary grit.
K R
Gauri participated in various agitations and movements
and was jailed on a numerous occasions. The physical
and mental torture she underwent during the days
in jails did not deter her from working for the masses.
