Cheril Krishnan Menon (C K Menon) was born on 18/9/1949 as the 3 rd son of the late Mr Puliyangottu Narayanan Nair and Mrs. Cheril Karthiyani Amma at Patturaikkal in Thrissur district of Kerala State.

His father Mr Narayanan Nair was a well known public transport company owner at that time. He studied at CMS high School Thrissur before joining St Thomas College, Thrissur, for Pre-Degree and moving on to Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, from where he graduated in B A History in 1973.

Subsequently joined Jabalpur University and graduated in Law in 1976 and enrolled as an advocate at the Bar Council of Kerala the same year. He practiced as a lawyer, from 1976 to 1978, in the High Court of Kerala and courts in Thrissur district under senior lawyers such as the late Justice Sivaraman Nair, Advocate Innees (Ernakulam) and the late advocate P Balanarayanan (Thrissur).
