School / College level
Antony
came into the limelight of politics in his school days. His organisational
qualities helped him to become the Union Secretary of Maharajas College
which helped him to become a noteworthy student leader at the state
level.
Antony
emerged successful to form a strong array of youth movements against
the E.M.S. ministry of 1957. He was the anchor person behind the students'
strike demanding the state government to reduce the boat charge of the
students of Kuttanadu. It spread like wild fire all over the state.
He led several successful struggles against the authority. The 'pattini
jatha' and 'veluthullikayal prakshobhanam', he led from Kasargod to
Trivandrum gained public interest. The reason for the latter struggle
was an eviction by the church authorities. Antony exhibited his bravery
to question the church authorities. The movement attained its goal finally
which became a milestone in Antony's political growth.
State level
Antony
became Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee Secretary and laision committee
member of UDF in 1970. He was first elected to the assembly in 1970
from Cherthala. He became the Chief minister of Kerala in 1977-78 and
1995-96 periods. He was elected from Kazhakoottam and Tirurangadi respectively
during these periods. He adorned the chair of KPCC Vice President for
a long period. Antony the chief minster of kerala got elected from cherthala
in 2001 polls.
National level
Antony was a member of Rajya Sabha from 1985 to 91 and 1991 to 96. He
was the minister for Civil Supplies in Narasimha Rao ministry in the
latter period. He is one of the top most and responsible Congress leaders
of the country. He was elected several times to the Congress Working
Committee, the superior strata of Congress party, he was once again
nominated to AICC in 1997. Now also he is working as a working committee
member.
