Achievements
John Brittas was the youngest correspondent to get the Central Hall pass in the Parliament. He has covered parliamentary proceedings for both Kairali TV and Desabhimani. His tenure in Delhi was full of events. He was there meeting important leaders, attending press conferences, and covering major national and international events. He did first hand reporting for the general elections between 1981 and 1999. He also covered the general election in Nepal soon after the tragic death of King Birendra. He was physically present in Ayodhya during the Babri Masjid demolition. And he was the first journalist from India to reach Baghdad during the recent Iraq war. From there he not only reported for his channel but also wrote for various newspapers. The excitement, thrill, and passion that journalism offers and not the rewards and awards he has received, is what he calls his major achievements.
One and a half decade in main stream journalism, recognition at an early age, power of media at hand- yet John Brittas has still not grown out of his small town, middle class, agrarian back ground. The glitter and glamour of the media world still has not caught on him. That probably is the strength of character that propels him to newer heights.
Awards:
He got the Journalism Educational Award, a fellowship cum award from Goenka Foundation for his research in “The Impact of Globalization in Print Media”.
