Winter Skin Care: Some facts to remember
Winter skin care can be made easy. Just remember a few facts about harsh winters and how it may affect your skin. Don’t fall in love with winter for the red blush it brings to your cheek. Your skin, whether it is dry or oily, might be struggling to maintain its normal texture during the winter. The skin may appear smooth, soft and pink when you are outdoors. When you come into the room temperature your skin will not be able to adjust to the sudden change. It will become dry and this dryness will result in scaling.
Here are some facts to remember, which help you to maintain the normal texture of your lovely skin and help you to choose apt skin care methods in this winter season.
Before applying any tips, first identify your skin texture with the help of a dermatologist if necessary. Never choose drugs and cosmetics as per your judgments. Keep your skin moisturized. Even same moisturizers can have adverse effects in different climate conditions. So use non clogging oils like almond oil and primrose oil instead of creams and gels as moisturizers. Otherwise use body lotions containing the substances which absorb and retain moisture. They are known as humectants. Glycerin, sorbitol are some among the common humectants.
Most important skin is the one on your face. Be careful when you choose skin toners and cleansers. Try to use toners without an alcoholic content, and mild foam cleansers. If possible, apply less skin cosmetics on your face during winter. Put an eye on your lips especially and avoid even little dryness there.
Experts say that winter sun is more dangerous for your skin than the summer sun. So never forget to apply sunscreen on the exposed skin 20 or 30 minutes before you go out. Skin on your hands is soft and it possesses less oil glands. So keep using hand gloves and make sure they are not wet. For your feet, apply petroleum jelly or glycerin regularly.
Most of us have a habit of taking hot water bath in winter. Avoid that first and have a lukewarm bath which will prevent skin from dryness. Avoid central heating systems in your home and place humidifiers, which get more moisture of the atmosphere. This will protect your skin from drying out.
Last but the most important thing left. That is, drink lot of water, 10 to 12 glass minimum a day, which is a first remedy to remember in the case of skin care. Follow a good diet, as a bad one will directly affect your skin. In winter the skin will be more sensitive than ever. So stay away from chemicals, disinfectants and cleaning lotions that may excessively damage the skin.
