Mahindra’s Thar to take adventure fanatics for a spin

Mahindra with the most-awaited Mahindra ‘Thar’ starts off the festival season in style. Already a hit among adventure lovers, Thar is bound to make waves among the country’s off-road fanatics. The Thar CRDe 4x4 will hit the showrooms of Chandigarh, Delhi and Jaipur in the Northern region. Towards the south, two major cities in Karnataka and Kochi in Kerala will launch the vehicle. Showrooms in Mumbai will also display this vintage beauty behind its glassy doors.

Through ‘Thar’, Mahindra follows the road paved by Beetle and FIAT, and takes a shot at bringing a retro-touch to its automobiles. This is probably why you can catch more than glimpses of the army jeep MM 550 in the CRDe. This in effect, underlines the fact that the ‘Thar’ is brawny and powered by a diesel 2498cc engine delivering 247 Nm torque at 2,000rpm.

For the more daring of the masses, the Jeep design never goes out of style, and the Thar gives its adventure-fanatics more than its share of good looks. Mahindra’s Thar can hit a peak speed of 150 kmph, and is built to deliver on the off-road drives. To make driving easy off the road, Thar provides 7.87” clearance off-ground. For those inclined towards a sophisticated feel, Mahindra offers a range of accessories to customize your Thar.

Essentially a jeep, Thar does not provision anti-lock bakes, brakeforce distribution, fog lamps or stability control. Airbags are absent in the base model as well.

Delhi showrooms price CRDe edition of Thar at Rs.5.99 lakhs. The DI edition can be bought in Jaipur for Rs.4.47 lakhs.
