November elections witness leaders of Kerala Panchayats defy all boundaries of Political conduct

Elections to the President and Vice Presidentship of the panchayats were held yesterday. It was embarrassing to watch the Councillors, the so-called local self-government representatives of the people, act in a manner utterly devoid of principles. For the sake of power, they defied all the directives of leadership. They formed alliances of convenience thereby drained the remaining ounces of morality from politics.

The elections flabbergasted the general public as it watched the Congress party support CPI(M) in an alliance to defeat its UDF partners. So did the Kerala Congress and the Muslim League. CPI(M) supported candidates from the UDF and BJP fronts signaling the erosion of values even in the impenetrable left politics. We saw almost all the political parties getting swindled by their own local representatives in the elections. This brings us to ponder aloud on the question of the day: Where is our politics heading to?

Thanks to many more scenarios similar to the one above being potentially recreated in all the elections across India, the youngsters of India seem to have lost interest in the country’s politics. Many youngsters are driven away from being involved in politics because of these obscene malpractices. To cleanse the political setting of India, we need more youngsters to become a part of the system. And above all, we need a leadership whose sole purpose is to serve the nation and its people.
