India or America, which is the third world country?
It is high time that India changed the way it looks upon America. It is true that after World War II, the power equation had tilted drastically in favor of America. For a prolonged period of over 50 years America ruled the world unchallenged. She was the super power in the true sense of the word. Politically; Economically; Culturally. Even with her history of less than 200 years, America thrived and dominated some of the oldest civilizations of the world confidently. But as she thrived over the years, some of the biggest players in the game of international politics were crumbling to the ground.
The world watched in stunned silence when Gorbachev stumbled and the Soviet Union broke away into bits and pieces. Probably at the time, America had not in her wildest dreams thought that she too would soon be thrown out of her regime. But the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center shook America to her core. And then the recession hit time and again harder and harder.
The recessions of 2002 and 2008 broke the backbone of the American capitalistic society and by 2010 downfall is almost complete. No longer a World Number One economically or politically, it is understandable that America is still dwelling in the shadows of its glorious past.
Now the big question – Why is India thinking that America is still a super power? Some of us still playing a second fiddle. The communists boycott the speech of Obama mistaking him to be the President of a super country. They normally understand their follies after two decades.
India is steadily rising to the status of a global provider. The very bail-out package of President Obama is proof enough for our economic capabilities. We must realize that today the entire world is listening intently to every word uttered by the Prime Minister of India. The key note of every economic contract is India. India has risen amongst the league of supreme powers. Right now, it looks like China is world number one, India is close behind on the second place and America in the third.
But when will we Indians accept that?We should ease out the baggage of yesteryears and embrace our destiny with respect and confidence.
