Tips for decorating your child’s room on a budget
Decorating your child’s room is the priority in the to-do list of any parent. The best way to do this is to get your child involved in making some of the choices for their room. Not only will this help your child develop his or her aesthetic sense from a very young age, working side by side with a parent will also provide the child some very valuable lessons on aspects relating to team work and co-ordination.
Decorating your child’s room need not always be something that will put a hole in your wallet. It is very easy to carry out an interior decoration of the room and what more, it is easily a unique way by which you can spend some ‘quality time’ with your children.
First, start off by picking a new shade for the walls. Let your child pick a series of colors and then you can choose from the list the color that will best suit the bedroom. The wall colors should be a good combination of vibrant and classy, so avoid colors bordering on dull or bright shades. You can even try out different shades on the adjacent walls, provided the color theme works well.
Turn a corner of the room into a relaxation zone. Arrange a comfortable and cushioned chair by a window and stack up a small bookshelf nearby. For an older child, a side-table for placing the music system or the iPod, laptop and CDs is also a good idea. Throw in another chair with the previous one, even if it is of a different model so you can sit down with your child and spend some time together.
In another corner, place the study desk and chair with an adjustable reading lamp provisioned. The chair and the table should be checked for height so that no strain is exercised on the hand and neck while writing or reading. The chair should have a strong back support. It is also good to place a footstool by the chair, to comfortably change the posture while sitting.
The next step is fun. Go shopping with your child to a flea market, and pick out some cute glow-in-the-dark toys and some low-watt bulbs for the night light. You can even pick a disco light if your child fancies it!
Pick out a few bed sheets, and leave the design selection to your child. If you are still on budget, make it a point to get a few fluffy or furry pillows that you can deck on your child’s bed. May be a few posters to pin on to the bedroom walls wouldn’t be a bad idea either.
In case you need the floor to be covered, then choose a rug which is washable and resistant to wear and tear. A shoe rack for arranging those shoes and sneakers, can also help in keeping the room organized and neat to an extent.
Ideas that need a bit more investment would involve getting a closet constructed in the room, in case there already isn’t one. A dressing table with some space to hold the basics like the comb, nail clippers, deo spray and others is always welcome. Getting a professional collage done and framed to hang it on the bedroom wall is an interesting idea for a wall decoration. For small kids, you can change the knobs in the room and replacing them with carved knobs made of mythical creatures or Harry Potter figurines.
Have your family photo tucked into a nice and trendy frame. You can either place this on the shelves or the table, or instead just hang it up on the wall.
