Pazhassi raja surprises with the collections

Though the hype was huge, no one expected the magnum opus historical ‘Pazhaasi Raja’ to win hands down. The movie which grossed around 1.53 crores in its opening day, became the film with the highest ever opening day collections. But Pazhassi's run is destined to create further more records in Mollywood, as the movie has repeated the feat in almost every centres in the last two days too-the Deepavali day and the Sunday. The movie is expected to have collected over four crores from its three day run in 125 centres. Around 10 lakhs of Malayalees are calculated to have completed their first viewing of the biggest ever movie in Mollywood, in the first three days, in the 1830 screenings all across Kerala.

More over, the satellite rights of Pazhassi Raja is rumoured to have went at an astonishing rate of 2.60 crores, the highest ever for Mollywood movie. ‘Pazhassi Raja’ will get into theatres in Tamil Nadu by the 30th of this month. With Sarath Kumar getting much accolades for his big performance in a big role, the movie is expected to make a decent run in Tamil Nadu too.

If the movie can continue with an eighty percent collections for two more weeks, add to it the chances of a five crore plus from Tamil Nadu and foreign prints, ‘Pazhassi Raja’ is expected to break even, though it is made in huge budget. This can be a heavy sign of promise for other big budgeted multi starrers that are under different stages of their production.

50 % reduction in entertainment tax for Pazhassi raja

The government released a fresh order issuing fifty percent reduction in the entertainment for Mammotty starrer flick ‘Pazhassi Raja’. Earlier the government dismissed the appeal made by the producers of the movie to hike the ticket charges since it is the most costly movie ever made in Malayalam with the budget Rs. 27 crore. The government rejected the appeal for the hike in ticket charge saying that it will affect the people.

The movie is all set for releasing on 16th this month in 125 theaters across Kerala. Pazhassi Raja is dubbed in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil.

Mohanlal to introduce Pazhassi Raja.

                   Malayalam superstar Mohanlal will be introducing the movie Pazhassi Raja to the audience. The movie, which is going to be released in four languages, will have different film stars to introduce the movie in different languages.
                  In Tamil version of the movie, universal hero Kamal Hassan has given the voice. He finds himself as lucky to be a part of the movie. In Hindi, Shah Rukh Khan will introduce the movie and in Telugu, superstar Chiranjeevi has given the voice.

Pazhassi Raja released in 130 cinema houses in Kerala

'Pazhassi Raja', Malayalam film industry's most costliest film, was released simultaneously in 130 cinema houses in Kerala today. The Rs 27 crore film, which tells the tale of the legendary warrior king and freedom fighter of the Malabar region who locked horns with the British 50 years before the Sepoy mutiny of 1857, has 2000 artists, including some from abroad in various roles, with Malayalam superstar Mammootty in the lead role of Pazhassi Raja.

While the Malayalam version was released today, the Hindi, English, Tamil and Telugu releases would be released by the end of this month, Sri Harilal, General Manager of Sree Gokulam Movies, the makers of the film. There was a huge crowd in front of theatres across the state as the first show began at 0930 hrs.

Huge cut outs of Mammootty had been put up in front of various theatres at Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Thrissur and ecstatic fans poured milk on cut outs signifying the release. Fans started queuing up in front of theatre halls from 7 am for the the first show at 0930 hrs. In Kochi, Mammootty fans, clad in white 'Mundu' and shirt,traditional Kerala attire, thronged the Savitha-Sangeetha threatre complex to view the first show. Some artistes,including Padmapriya also came to view the show.

In Thrissur, a cut out of Mammootty was placed atop a caprisoned elephant and amidst the beating of drums and other percussion instruments, the first show began.The film has Tamil superstar Sharat Kumar and popular artistes like Manoj K Jayan, Padma Priya and Kaniha in prominent roles.

The Mammootty Fans association also would be distributing,'Payasams' (a sweet delicacy) throughout the day to express their happiness about the release of the film which took nearly three years in the making. The Kerala Government has slashed the entertainment tax by 50 per cent for the film which has Oscar winner Rasool Pookutty debuting as the sound recordist in a Malayalam film. Noted actor Mohanlal has introduced the film's subject in Malayalam, while Kamal Haasan does it in Tamil version and Shah Rukh Khan in Hindi.

The film, scripted by Jnanpith award winner M T Vasudevan Nair and directed by Hariharan, has Ilayaraja as the music director. The Nair-Hariharan pair is teaming up in Malayalam after 'Oru Vadakkan Veeraghadha'-a Mammootty starrer-- released some20 years ago.
