Kerala road transport minister Jose Thettayil today flagged off ten new low floor buses of KSRTC from Thiruvananthapuram, as a part of the second phase of Jawaharlal Nehru National Mission for Urban renewal.

The low floor buses are for services to some towns in Thiruvananthapuram district, like Attingal, Kattakkada, Nedumangadu, Neyyattinkara, Kilimanoor and Varkala. The new strategy is to attract more people towards KSRTC buses as per the authorities.

Mean time a total of 26 low floor buses from Thiruvananthapuram and 41 from Ernakulam are in service. As per the Government authorities they are not focusing much on the profit level of the low floor buses and no plans for a fare hike have been made.

According to the JNNURM project a total of 150 low floor buses (120 will be non AC and 30 will be AC) will be sanctioned for the capital city. Ten among them have started their service today. Under the scheme 170 buses are for Ernakulam and 50 of them will be AC.
