Super Maximum Security Prison for Trivandrum

A super maximum security prison worth Rs. 20 crore will be soon launched in the city, said the Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. He was speaking at a function in the capital yesterday, laying the foundation for a new building of the State Institute of Correctional Administration here.

The state has acquired an amount of over Rs. 50 crore for renovating district jails and developing its precincts with more building constructions, as per the necessities. An institute for training the prison officers and new recruits will also be opened soon offering in-service training courses in modern day prison administration theories. A welfare fund for the Police, Prisons Department and Fire and Rescue Services will be operated, said the minister.

The video surveillance system will be instigated in all the prisons across the state in a phased manner. Assuring the rectification of the pay revision anomalies, the minister announced that the Home Department will soon formulate all the provisions for the new Prisons Act.
