State Government launches education programme for school dropouts

State Government launches ‘Athulyam’ an initiative for the education of primary school dropouts. As the initial step, ‘Athulyam’ will educate those who have dropped out of school without completing their fourth standard. The State Government’s initiative will include a 100 hour education for the development of vocational and computer skill of the participants.

The initiative is developed by Lifelong Education and Awareness Programme Mission with financial aid from the State Government of up to Rupees 5 crores. Keeping in pace with the high literacy percentage in the state of Kerala, the educational programme will focus on the most underdeveloped Panchayats in the state.

The programme was given a formal kick-off by the State’s Education Minister, M.A. Baby. The educational programme will cater to 3 lakh school dropouts in the state of Kerala. Initially, the support for the education programme will be derived from the Panchayats themselves working in sync with the network of NGOs operating across the state.

On a related note, an assembly of the state’s Aided Higher Secondary Teacher’s Association will be formed today in front of the Secretariat. The protest will be attended by educators across the state who will take a vow to increase the quality of education provided in the state.
