Standing committee members: elections in progress

The Standing Committee election process in the local Government bodies will wind up tomorrow. The election started at 11am today in all city corporations.
There are standing committees on finance, development, welfare, health and education in every Gram panchayats and block panchayats in the state. The Vice President will be the Chairman of finance committee. Each member other than President or Vice President would be elected to any of the committee.
An additional public works committee will exist, but only for the district Panchayats. Separate standing committees for health and education will be formed at all municipal councils. The Corporation councils will have two additional committees, the town planning committee and tax and appeal committee.
There will be a reserved seat for women in all standing committees. Incase if there are no women members to contest, further actions will be taken in accordance to the Panchayat Raj Act. The election for the Chairpersons’ seats will be conducted on 24th and 25th of November.
