Public smoking is under radar and public smokers will be prosecuted immediately, says the High Court. With the inaction by the police officers to take necessary steps, any person or petitioner can inform the authorities for instigating suitable action and disciplinary measures against the smoking offender.

Numerous public smoking instances were spotted in the Malappuram district. This was according to a petitioner, K.Rama Raj of Palakkad who had filed a contempt-of-court case to a Division bench comprising of Justice C.N. Ramachandran Nair and Justice Bhabani Prasad Ray.

As the judgment has become the law of the land with its substantial compliance all over Kerala, no contempt action will be initiated against these district collectors, the order said. Palakkad also displays high levels of smoking in public areas.
