No power cuts, load-shedding and tariff hikes says Minister

No power cuts, load-shedding and tariff hikes in Kerala throughout the next year declared the Electricity minister, A.K.Balan. After inaugurating the foundation laying ceremony of the Barapol Small Hydro electric project at Palathumkadavu yesterday, the minister proclaimed the declaration.

The Electricity minister also announced that there will be no more voltage fluctuation problems in the future as almost 17,000 transformers have already been installed throughout the state. The government is taking all actions to avoid any power crisis in the state for the next 25 years. 100% electrification at 100 assembly constituencies will be the next upcoming project of the government.

The Rs 138.44 crore hydro electric project at Palathumkadavu, is going to profit the entire Malabar region by producing about 36 million units of energy a year. The small hydro electric project is the first of its kind in the district. With an installed capacity of 15 MW the project intends to valve hydro electric power from the Barapol River at Ayyamkunnu Panchayat here. The power generated from the powerhouse will be conveyed to the 110kV substation situated at Iritty.
