Monetary help for Ayyappan: “Finally money reaches Ayyappan, but never to his pocket!”
The Government provided monetary relief to Ayyappan’s relatives, in a symbolic act of gratitude for his intense contribution to Kerala’s literary world during his lifetime. The deceased poet A Ayyappan’s relatives received monetary assistance from the Government of Kerala yesterday. The education minister, M.A.Baby handed over the government-allotted amount of Rupees three lakh to Ayyappan’s sister Subhalakshmi at his residence.
The veteran poet, who had a very tragic childhood losing both his parents at an early age, had his last refuge at his lone sister’s home at Nemom, Trivandrum. With a typical bohemian lifestyle, street was his home through out his life time, yet Subhalakshmi was his only solace.
After living a life of complete defiance of all the established norms of society, Ayyappan died the way he lived. The poet who was ever condemned as the man of debts, ever seeking a penny from any pocket nearby, after his death repaid to the society the debts he acquired all his lifespan. Truly, the poet of orphans mesmerizes his name!
