Kerala University exams get new recommendations to maintain integrity
For Kerala University exams, the recommendations made by the Examinations reform Committee of the Kerala State Higher Education Council are for maintaining the integrity of the exams in all the Universities across Kerala and to reduce unfair issues related with internal assessment in colleges.
As per the recommendations, a task force will be formed to set up a question bank, a centralized one for the exams of all Universities in Kerala. It will have a common state level component and separate components for each university. The viva voce, exam conducting, unsealing the question paper packet and the answer script will be videotaped. The paper evaluation will be on the basis of bar code verification. Universities can design the physical structure of their question papers and answer sheets.
In the case of internal assessment there must be an approved scheme in each college and a clear form of the scheme should be easily available to all students in the college. There must be facilities for the students to deal with the issues regarding internal assessment. Universities have to maintain common guide lines for internal assessment, which they must provide to all their colleges. And the assessment scheme should be included in the syllabus of each course prepared by the Board of Study.
Selected teachers of colleges and the members of the Board of Study will be trained for designing the curriculum and giving new technical ideas. There must be a permanent system in each university for this purpose.
The examination reforms committee of eight members headed by the former professor of EFLU submitted their detailed final report before the Higher Education Council on Friday. The report can be viewed by accessing the official website of State Higher Education Council. It is expected that the implementation of new recommendations suggested by the committee will be able to reduce all kinds of malpractices and issues related with university exams.
