Kannur airport will begin its construction work on 17th December at the 1,200 acres of land obtained for the purpose. A total of 2,200 acres of land is necessary for the airport. Home and Tourism Minister, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan announced the decision on Kannur airport in New Delhi.

The airport construction work will be launched by the Civil Aviation minister Praful Patel. In order to implement the project on Kannur airport, the government had also formed a special taskforce, added the Home Minister. The Rs 1,100 crore project on Kannur airport has ratios of 51:49 in the total budget, the larger share of which is held 26% by government, 23% by state PSUs and the rest 2% by INKEL, a Kerala government company for infrastructure development in the state.

There are chances for the total budget to overrun. The time the current estimate was calculated was five years earlier and the government had plans to identify a consultant of international standards to create the proposal. Numerous discussions with important Kerala NRIs were also conducted that had aroused significant encouragement to the project, according to sources.
