Kalanidhi Maran is new Chairman of Spice Jet airlines
Kalanidhi Maran takes over as the new Chaiman of SpiceJet airlines. Kalanidhi Maran, the chief of Sun Network took over India’s economy airlines today and immediately initiated his duties by appointing wife Kaveri as one of the directors on the board. He also nominated four new associates to the Board of Directors of SpiceJet airlines in the place of its four existing directors who have resigned
The appointment of a new Chairman is one of the outcomes of the Spice Jet board meeting which took place a day back, bringing changes in the existing management structure of the airlines. Under the new leadership of Kalanidhi Maran, S. Natrajhen will now be the new Chief Operating Officer of SpiceJet airlines.
Yet another major outcome of the meeting is that Kalanidhi Maran and KAL Airways have been declared to jointly have purchased close to 39% of the airline’s shares. This effectively ceases the status of Royal Holdings Services Limited as the promoters of SpiceJet and brings into picture Kalanidhi Maran and KAL Airways as the new promoters.
Kalanidhi Maran is the Chairman of the Sun TV network which is one of the most lucrative networks in India. His taking over of SpiceJet airlines, one of India’s profit making budget airlines, has led to a steep climb in the airline’s shares. Kalanidhi Maran is also the son of former Union Minister Murasoli Maran.
In a meeting, Kalanidhi Maran addressed the stakeholders of SpiceJet and said that the there will be no change in the location of the Headquarters of the airlines from its current location, Delhi. Registered office might be moved to Chennai, he said.
