IT@ School project of Kerala achieved Stockholm Challenge Award

The IT @ school project of Kerala initiated by the General Education department of Kerala achieved the highly prestigious Stockholm Challenge award of 2010. The Stockholm challenge award had commenced in the year 1994 and it is given to the most inventive and feasible IT projects. By getting this opportunity the project will get a global recognition and get new investors and a good global networking.

The IT@ school project was launched in the year 2001 by the general education department aimed to empower educational sector with communication and technology tools making students familiar with all aspects of information technology. The IT@ school project has so far covered 8000 schools of the state and the project is launched only for the classes from 5th to plus two levels. The project provides a well promising IT infrastructure for all the schools coming under this. The project is authorized for implementing EDUSAT network in schools. It also has an educational channel named VICTERS (Virtual Classroom Technology on Edusat for Rural Schools). Recently the project initiated a reality show ‘Haritha vidyalaya’ for finding excellent schools of the state, which is first initiative in the country of its kind, being telecasted in Doordarshan and VICTERS.

The IT@ school project won the international recognition by competing with 290 projects from a total of 90 countries around the globe. Among the seven short listed, Kerala’s project played the lead.
