Food prices to drop: 100 new Maveli stores and four hypermarkets cuts vegetable prices
Food prices will drop in the future with the entry of 100 new Maveli stores and four hypermarkets, says C Divakaran. The escalating prices of vegetables will be checked with the intervention of concerned state government departments, declared the minister of Civil Supplies.
Up to four hypermarkets will be launched in four regions including the capital of the state, within 3 months. 100 Maveli stores are set to be launched and according to their respective turnover; these stores will be converted to superstores. Apart from this, a division for processing wheat, a training centre for processing food and a lab for chemical analysis will also be instigated.
14 food items are being sold at much lesser prices than those in the individual stores and market places. The minister also announced the opening of a civil supplies helpline 18004251550 to record complaints about the rationing system.
A high level meeting of the Food and Civil Supplies will be soon convened by the Chief Minister to review the plans and situation, said the minister. Extensive raids to check illegal activities pertaining to food market were recently conducted all around the state and the government captured merchandise worth Rs 259.03 lakhs.
The price regulation venture of the government will be activated in association with the Vegetable and Fruit Promotion Council of Kerala.
