Finally, hope for Kasargod: Cheemeni project to fight power shortage
On a move to beat the acute power shortage in the State, Cabinet yesterday approved the 2500MW power project at Cheemeni, Kasargod. The government also proposes to enhance the industrial development in the comparatively backward region of the state with this upcoming venture.
As soon as the complete fund for the project is allocated, the gas-based power project will kick off. A total of 200 acre land has already been spotted that is now with the Plantation Corporation of Kerala and the government has asked to hand over the land to Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation. 43 families residing in the area along with the 20-odd people involved in agriculture will be soon rehabilitated, said the Deputy Collector, H.Dineshan.
However, the earlier proposed coal-based mega thermal project was opposed by the CPI (M) due to the possible health hazards to the inhabitants, and the resulting ongoing agitation hasn’t still subsided.
