But what happens when it is misused thanks to the free SIM offers from the network providers is evident today. The advanced communication technologies are abused for anti social activities nowadays, and the cyber crimes are also in full swing.

The misuse of the mobile phone technology starts with a false connection. Some of the agents of the service providers misuse the proofs of identities and photographs of the authorized applicants for making fake identities for a mobile connection. The mobile phone networks in the country give a commission of Rupees 50 to 100 to an agent per connection. There are plenty of other gifts as compliments for the ones who achieve particular targets. This compels the agents to create false connections using the identities of authorized applicants. The ‘free SIM offers’ of many service providers opened a new window for this crime to bloom.

Kerala is now a hub for scores of fake mobile phone connections. Malappuram state alone crossed a thousand numbers in this regard, as Police seized many fake ids from some of the agents in the district..
