Endosulfan chemical, Jairam Ramesh says blame the mode of application

Union Minister Jairam Ramesh, discussing on chemical Endosulfan’s lethal impact in Kasargod district declared that, the impact primarily owes to the chemical’s faulty mode of usage. The farmers at the areas with their insufficient knowledge to use the chemical had gone for aerial spraying on cashew plantations etc which is the prime cause of the issue, the Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests said.

The Minister announced that any strong evidence to support the devastating effects of the chemical Endosulfan is exposed by the agricultural experts, there will be an immediate ban at the national level, just as Kerala has already banned the use of the chemical. Mr. Ramesh also clarified that the issue was more ‘human’ and not a ‘political’ concern, but the countries that are reluctant to ban the chemical have another main issue politically; it is the only cost-effective pesticide.

Various other countries like the United States and Brazil comprehending its negative potential as an organic pollutant and extremely toxic material has been phased out already.
