Bird watcher’s forum at the Capital
A Bird watcher’s forum was officially formed at the state capital, Trivandrum. The long forgotten swampy lake of Trivandrum Zoo now finds a real face lift with the Two day Bird- Watcher’s Forum that was inaugurated yesterday. Along with the forum, the inauguration ceremony of the restoration of the lake was also conducted as the lake was an indivisible constituent of the bird watching group, according to the Director of the Zoo, K. Udhayavarma.
The Bird-Watchers Forum is jointly organized by the Directorate of Museum and Zoos along with the Forestry Training Centre at Arippa. The venture is also a part of the recent project taken up by the Directorate of Museum and Zoo to foster knowledge on biodiversity in the youth. This is also a part of the International Year of Biodiversity 2010 celebrations. Numerous ornithologist and bird enthusiasts from far and wide visited the museum grounds here, to discuss on their own findings and concerns in the field of bird watching.
Birds, the forerunners of the changing characteristics of natural and human-induced changes in the ecosystem, were one of the major topics of discussion. A state-wide knowledge sharing base to provide a stage for the professionals to bring out their works and the amateurs to collect information will also be soon formed, the forum decided.
