Akshaya Day celebrations draw to a fine close; sessions on services organized by district
Akshaya Day celebrations mark an end today as the tour promoting the services provided by the project, concludes its activities in Trivandrum. Akshaya Day is meant to commemorate the advancement in Information Technology services sector which the state has been able to achieve.
Inaugurated by Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, the then President of India, the Akshaya Project took shape in 2002, with the aim of making use of Information Technology enabled services to bridge the gap between the Government and the public. This was made possible by the implementation of e-Centers along the state for delivering services to the public.
Some of the services provided by the Akshaya project today include ePay, eKrishi, eVidya, eTicketing, NRI communication provider and registration services inclusive of Passports, BPL status and Ration cards.
The project also concentrated on social welfare activities by providing computer education services to atleast a member of each family in the backward regions in the state. By availing the services of the e-Centers, the public could carry out various routine activities which would otherwise consume a lot of time and efforts.
Information Technology Department of Kerala celebrated Akshaya Day on 9th November. Chief Minister of Kerala V.S Achuthanandan inaugurated the Akshaya Janasevana Pracharana Yathra which focused on the spreading awareness about the Akshaya e-Centers scattered across the state.
The celebrations commenced with a journey across all the fourteen districts in Kerala, starting from the district of Kasargode, home of the Akshaya project. En route, the tour educated the public about Akshaya and its services by adopting amusing methods such as street plays. Trivandrum welcomed the road show by setting up stalls for the public to view and discuss the various services provided by the project.
