3G in mobile phones halted, customers upset on TRAI’s silence.
3G network service in mobile phones- the much awaited advancement in telecom technology- will be halted by all telecom services in India as per the decision of the Central Government. Customers are perplexed by the Government’s sudden change of plans.
The Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Sachin Pilot informed Rajyasabha that the Government had suggested stopping the 3G network service launched from all mobile phone services providers in India for a while. The mobile phone service providers can resume the service to their customers after implementing a proper monitoring system which will work in accordance with the law satisfying all the existing telecommunication rules in India.
The minister added that he has already informed BSNL, the India’s leading mobile phone service provider, to cease its 3G network services especially in the regions of Kashmir.
MTNL has had to its credit, the launch of 3G spectrum in mobile phones in India for the first time. This was followed by BSNL in February 2009. Other private mobile phone service providers such as Airtel and DoCoMo are among other those successful in launching 3G services. A 3G service is meant to help the customers transfer data of up to 8 Mbps using their mobile phones. The 3G network service made an explosion in the field of information technology as well as telecommunication.
Customers are the real victims of the Government’s decision and were already dealing with a number of tariff plans hailing from the telecom services. Be it 2G, 3G or any-G for that matter, the mobile phone users are left puzzled by the hidden costs on all tariff plans from the service providers.
The last word on all telecom services, The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) however chooses to remain silent on all the proposed questions.
