1,555 women entrepreneurs for Kerala: Gramarasmi project promotes women’s reign

A project worth Rupees 6.99 crores, Gramarasmi is set to create 1555 women entrepreneurs in the state. The Gramarasmi project was inaugurated by the Minister of Food and Animal Husbandry, C.Divakaran.

The Gramarasmi project aims to promote dairy farming as a group activity for poverty alleviation and ensuring food security along with the women’s self employment programme. The state has selected almost 311 women self help groups, each cluster comprising of 5 women entrepreneurs. Each of these groups will be provided one cow and two goats. The state also supplies a subsidy of Rs.22, 250 and a corresponding bank loan to meet with the animal expenditures. A successful completion of this project will enhance the live stock population in the state significantly, with almost 3110 goats and 1555 cows to the credit.

The districts like Trivandrum, Kollam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Palakkad and Kozhikode are allotted 25 clusters each while the other districts like Alappuzha, Kottayam, Malappuram, Wayanad, Knnur and Kasargod will have 20 cluster units. At the same time 15 units will be initiated in Pathanamthitta and 26 in Thrissur. There will also be a supervisory committee for this project that will be monitoring the activities of these Gramarasmi units regularly. This committee consists of a veterinary surgeon, panchayat president and a representative of the bank which provides the necessary monetary assistance.
