Well known actress Kozhikode Shanthadevi passes away

The highly renowned actress of Malayalam film industry who reigned victoriously for more than five decades together both in the silver screen and the theatre, Kozhikode Shanthadevi passes away.

The 85 year old Shanthadevi died at a private hospital at Kozhikode yesterday evening. With senility related problems she was in medical treatment for over a very long time.

With more than 1000 theatre performances and 480 movies to her credit, Shanthadevi had established a distinguishable reputation of her own in the world of acting. She had even played significant roles in various television serials.

Recently the media had given a spotlighted coverage of her widowed and helpless life at her house at Nallilam. Soon she had seeked refuge in an old age home at Vellimadukunnu. After recovering her health, she was staying at her house at Nallilam again by the time she breathed her last. The wife of late Kozhikode Abdul Khadar Mrs Shanthadevi is survived by her son Suresh.

The well known actress who had entered the film world with Ramu Kariat’s “Minnaminungu” in 1957 had won numerous accolades in the world of acting. For her significant contributions to the theatre world throughout her lifetime, she had won Kerala Sangeetha Nataka academy award for the year 2005. She had also won the National award for the best supporting actress in 1992 for her remarkable performance in Bharat Gopi’s “Yamanam”.
