Better late than never: Kalmadi and Chavan out, Congress says
Bookmark and Share

Finally the Congress party took action against the two scam-tainted Congress leaders from Maharashtra. Suresh Kalmadi and Asok Chavan are sacked from the Secretaryship of CPP and Chief Ministership of Maharashtra.

Suresh Kalmadi amassed multi-crores unashamedly by swindling the funds of Commonwealth games. It is a paradox that the Congress Party still maintains Kalmadi as the President of Indian Olympic Association, another source to make huge money.

Asok Chavan is asked by the Congress Party to resign from the Chief Ministership of Maharashtra for the irregularities in the Adarsh Flat allocation. There was found to be gross corruption in allotting flats to the widows of the Kargil heros. This 31 storeyed flat is now in the possession of many political bigwigs and a few Army officers. Chavan is alleged to have alloted a few flats to his mother-in-law and other relatives.

The disciplinary action on both the stalwarts- Chavan and Kalmadi of the Congress party is interpreted as a mere eye-wash to save the face of Congress party in the current Parliament session.

The big fish though still remains unharmed: the Telecom Minister A. Raja of the DMK, an ally of the Congress Party, committed the fraudulence of tens of thousands of crores. This is undoubtedly still one of the biggest scams to occur in the scam-tainted political history of the Congress in India.
