Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s act of courtesy in the Air India flight

Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s act of courtesy comes as a breath of fresh air in a political world stagnated by conceitedness. The Minister for Home and Tourism affairs in Kerala took on an altuistric attitude when he vacated his seat in order to accommodate an elderly tourist traveling the Air India New Delhi bound flight.

The Minister was approached by the air hostess asking him if he could provide a favour to the foreign couple by vacating his seat for the lady. Following a leg injury, the lady needed a front row seat to seat herself comfortably during the flight. The couple had approached the front-row passengers of the flight for an exchange but none had relented. This event was followed by the air hostess personally requesting minister Balakrishnan for the favour. Without a further word, the minister exchanged his comfortable abode for a less preferred seat on the flight in the row behind.

It was only after some of the passengers recognized the minister, that the air hostess was pointed out that she had made this request to one of the most powerful figures in Indian politics. Consequently, she approached the minister with due apologies, who dismissed them off as quite unnecessary.

Minister Balakrishnan’s benevolence should be exemplified and adopted by rest of the political ‘leaders’ in the state. In a system where one is passionately focused on obtaining one’s due, we could all just be a tad accommodating and make some room to bring in long lost chivalry into our lives.
