Hidden traffic cameras monitor Trivandrum city. 42 more police automatic cameras are set to be commissioned in Trivandrum city to discipline the traffic signal violation cases, as part of the second stage of the city surveillance traffic monitoring facility. The cameras will be activated apart from the existing 29 cameras in the major junctions of the city. Measures have also been taken to check the growing drunk driving in the city, said the City police commissioner, M.R.Ajith.

Violation of the red signal, one way, no entry, speed driving etc will be recorded in the camera and the vehicle owner has to pay the compensation. This notice will be immediately corresponded to the control room monitor that nobody is spared. Apart from capturing the traffic violation cases, police expects the facility to catch hold of the road robbers, criminals, pocket pinchers and rowdies also.

In spite of a week long vigorous patrolling, the police have not been able to control rash and drunk driving until now. The Police say that almost 90% of the road accidents taking place at the afternoon are all out of drunk driving. The commission says that, as they apply for passports in future, such an action can prove harmful to the applicant’s future.

The second stage of the camera activation facility is initiated with the first experimental camera instituted at the Pattom Junction as a pilot version. More cameras will be soon launched at Peroorkada, Anayira world market, Eanchakkal, Technopark, Padmanabha Swamy Temple, General Hospital Junction, Medical College and other prominent junctions of the city.
