In the election history of Kerala, November 8th will forever remain a memorable day. Election of the Panchayat Presidents and other office bearers for most of the Municipalities and Panchayats in the State were carried out. The event witnessed many local leaders sacrificing their ideologies and political morality on their journey towards power and position.
BJP suspended 11 members for a period of 6 years, as they supported UDF in various districts, which are against the party’s election principles
In the Puliyur Panchayat of Chengannur, M.G Sreekumar from the CPI(M) who was elected as the Panchayat President resigned on the spot due to protests from the party supporters. The election procedures of the Vice President were consequently postponed. Many members who were supporters of Sreekumar, including women, were injured during the havoc.
A member of Kottangal, Mallappally Panchayat belonging to Kerala Congress became the Panchayat President with support from LDF.
A Congress member was elected as the Panchayat President in Idavetty with the support of CPM and Kerala Congress, thus defeating UDF’s official candidate from League.
Malambuzha witnessed a fight breaking out between CPM and CPI party members in the election for President. A woman candidate from CPI finally won the position.
In Vorkkady panchayat of Kasargode, a BJP rebel candidate occupied the Panchayat President’s office, supported by UDF.
In Pulloor of Kanjangadu district, a congress candidate was elected as the Panchayat President with the support of BJP. In Muliyar, Left won the position of Panchayat President with the support of the League’s rebel candidate.
In Onchiyam Panchayat UDF supported the Revolutionary Marxist Party and came into power.
