Trick or Treat? : What India should really be asking President Obama

Dear President Obama,

Coming to India, are we? The media have been blaring horns about your November visit. A year in passing since you first ascended the steps to the White House and you have gone out of your way trying to get the anti-outsourcing bill passed in the Senate. If it hadn’t been for the Republicans, half a million Indians would have taken to the streets, thanks to you. So President Obama, may we ask- now what has forced you to finally decide on gracing our humble country with your presence? Is it the exasperation of being let down by your own public in the mid-term elections? Or is it the realization that no matter how hard you try, America cannot survive the economic crisis without a little help from her friends?

Whatever be the circumstances President Obama, we are glad to have you visit our country. Our citizens consider it a privilege to hear India being described in the very words of the man who proposed to move mountains by freezing our livelihood just a year back. We hope that the ‘political bail-out package’ serves the underlying motive behind your visit and that it manages to somehow boost your ratings in the upcoming months. But President Obama, don’t you feel that it is high time that the US stopped blaming India for the employment issues in the country? Don’t you think that this discrimination towards India as a reaper of the American jobs should be exposed for what it really is: a one-sided attitude to a deep-rooted problem?

Well, now that you are here President Obama, let’s talk. It is overwhelming to know that you empathize with India on the necessity for obliterating terrorism from the world. So as a starter, how about you hand over that David Headly to our Indian authorities? We haven’t heard any mention of that in your Taj speech. And it is exhilarating that you are keen on improving bilateral relations with our country. May be that should commence with a compensation to the families of the victims of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. Or may be by addressing the Indian farmer whose woes have been compounded and earning minimized, thanks to the mammoth subsidies you provide to your own farmers in the US. Their protestations, you see President Obama, are being stifled under the unrelenting vigilance of the Indian Police. Good for you President Obama, India is a country welcoming in its attitude towards its guests; we are keen on ensuring that nothing unflattering to your disposition soils your stay with us. Hopefully your experience in India will help our American counterparts learn a thing or two about hospitality.

Keral.com wishes you an incredible stay!
