World Malayalee Council’s youth wing Altius, organized its most recent camp in Aluva where 70 students from 19altius camp tvm colleges participated. The camp was organized in the view of the panoramic Aeli Hills. The Aeli Hills Resort management provided major facilities like accommodation and seating free of cost in consideration of the noble cause that Altius advocated.

The inauguration ceremony was conducted by Dr. A.V. Anoop, the Chairman of Cholayil group and WMC-Kerala Province. Mr. Joseph Mathew, President of WMC-Eranakulam District, presided over the event.

Benny Kurian, the CEO of Synergy HR Solutions who is also a professional trainer took the participants under his wing by conducting an interactive session on ‘Team Building’. The session was an ice-breaker for the students and Benny Kurian continued to encourage the participants to interact with each other. Mr. Anoop Nambuthiri took a class on the Altius objectives by addressing the participants.

The highlight of the first day for most students was Dr. Sambhu Panikkar’s session which imparted the 3 keys to success to the participants – Intent, Effort and Grace. The session lasted 3.5 hours and struck a common chord with most participants. The students were asked to perform reflective exercises and most participants were spiritually moved. Some were even found to have wept profusely when Dr. Panikkar asked the participants to remember their parents for a few minutes and thank them for their kindness and guidance.altius trivandrum wmc

The camp wound up for the day at 11 pm, post a ‘fire-less’ campfire session where the students were led to overcome their timidity and shyness and to intermingle in the group. Despite the obvious absence of the fire, the session took on a vigorous streak when the students contested amongst themselves to get to know each other and widen their network.

Altius camp welcomed the next morning on a green-note by arranging a trekking trip to Aeli Hills. Priyadas Mangalath outlined the roadmap of Altius by interacting with the students on how to do away with the negativity of the Malayalees and rebuild Kerala by molding the new generation into responsible and committed citizens.

Altius students further resolved to form clubs in 15 of the 19 colleges. Throughout the span of the 2-day camp, WMC Secretary Mr. Joy Abraham interacted with the students and guided them. 6 Altius seniors did an outstanding job mentoring the other camp participants.

The camp concluded with Mr. Saji performing the thanksgiving ceremony. Mr. Saji, the President of the Ernakulam Metro Unit was the Chief Guest in the valedictory function. He inspired the students by sharing his own life experiences with them in his address to the participants.

From the feedback of the students it was evident that every hour they spent at the camp awoke their social conscience and humane traits. The event also left open to the participants the opportunity hosting the Annual State Meet of Altius to be held in Ernakulam in January.
