The best film of the 15th IFFK screened at Nishagandi

The best film at the 15th International Film Festival of Kerala that was bagged by the Spanish film, “Portraits in a Sea of Lies” was screened at the Nishagandhi open auditorium, Trivandrum, soon after the closing ceremony. The film tells the story of two cousins who take a journey to recover their grandfather’s land in a civil-war torn Columbia.

Directed by Carlos Gaviria,“Portraits in a Sea of Lies” has behind the camera the committed hardwork of Edgar Gil who did the camera, Ricardo Escallon in charge of Sound and Maria Mulata rendering music into the frames. Paola Baldion, Julian Roman, Edgardo Roman, Valeria Fuentes played the leading roles in the film. Both the screenplay and editing of this film was done by the director himself.

The film is about the experiences of cousins, Jairo an itinerant photographer, and Marina, his young amnesic and mute cousin merge with a portrait of Columbia, a country that has been in a civil war for the last sixty years. They decide to go back and try to recover their grandfather’s land from where they were displaced. During the trip, the story of a traumatic past starts to unfold, they face the parliamentary forces. Marina manages to reach her home, but Jiro is injured. She helps him cope with the declining condition in a novel manner.

Not just amongst the jury and the eminent critic folks, the film had won great acclaim from most of the delegate section equally.
