Tagore Centenary hall likely to be 16th IFFK’s Permanent Venue
The Chairman of Chalachitra Academy, Mr K.R.Mohanan in an exclusive interview with www.keral.com, said that the 16th IFFK is likely to have Tagore Centenary hall at Vazhuthacau, Trivandrum as its permanent venue.
In the backdrop of growing allegations that the plans to build a permanent venue for IFFK will be a dream, Mr Mohanan said that the initial works to convert Tagore Hall to IFFK’s permanent venue is already underway. Within 2-3 years, the academy has already decided to launch another cultural complex for the International film festival in the city. He said that every year almost 1/3rd of the festival expenditure is sent on the theatre rents. The primary reason to fix the festival dates before Christmas is to hire the theatres during its lean period, he said. Still the theatres have to be given full house charge resulting in an exorbitant theatre rate combining all the 10 theatres in the city. Therefore, the government had realized the significance of a permanent venue some time before.
The state government has already allotted an amount of Rs 50 lakhs to refurnish the Tagore Centenary hall and the entire work will be completed within the next year for the next IFFK.
