Standing Ovation for Indian film “Udaan”, the best youth film of the year

By  Keerthy Ramachandran

“The Indian Cinema Now” category had a grand start at the Kairali today with its first film “Udaan”. The movie was received with huge applause from the beginning till end.

The film was an organic whole with a judicious blend of all elements of a commercial film without compromising on a very strong message it carries. The film is an indepth exploration into the angst ridden teenage life of a 17 year old boy, Rohan. His life at boarding school is comparatively a heaven to him in stark contrast to a disciplined and love-free domestic ambience back home. His life takes a U-turn with one naught night at his boarding school, where he along with his friends were caught watching a porno film. Soon the path of his life changes and from then on undergoes all the tormented experiences his fate had in store for him. Rohan tries to forge his own life out of his given circumstances and pursues his dream of being a writer.

The director, Vikramaditya Motwane who had also written the screenplay of the movie has undoubtedly done an excellent job in presenting such a youth-inspiring movie to the Indian cinema. “With a major share of new faces as cast, the director has been able to marvellously portray the nuances of life in such a truthful and transparent manner, this deserves a high acclaim”, says a group of students from Coimbatore. “The film can be rightly termed the best youth film of the year.” Had “Udaan” found a place in the Competition films, the youth would have unanimously voted for taking it as one of the best-inspiring film of this generation.
