“Indian Cinema Now” one of the most loved packages at IFFK

By  Keerthy Ramachandran

As though the “Indian Cinema Now” category is increasingly becoming a favourite package, today also great responses are coming from the delegates’ side about an Indian film screened today afternoon at the Kairali theatre. “Kanasembo Kudureyaneri” [ Riding a Stallion of a Dream], the film by Girish Kasaravalli was a well-noted movie of the day. Though the movie didn’t allure a crowded audience, all the delegates who watched the movie was more than delighted from this not-so-expecting movie.

Riding a Stallion of a Dream pursues three different strands of questioning regarding Irya, who is a grave digger. His dreams had the power to foretell events. On one occasion, he predicts the death of the Senior Gowda based on his dream. But, this is not true. The failing power of his dream’s predictive powers looms as a question on the future relevance of Irya in the community. When dreams fail, there arouses intense pangs as to whether he would get killed, will he give up his job or sway away from his convictions.

With stunning long shots and excellent cinematography, the camera man, H.M. Ramachandran Halkere deserves great merit. Special appreciation should be conferred on the set design and the costume- make up section, for their enormous contribution in rendering extraordinary natural look and feel to the film.
