IFFK 2010: Evoking the Titans of Malayalam film Industry
As the 15thIFFK 2010 is at the door step, Malayalam film enthusiasts will have a tough time ahead to cope with out flowing emotions and tears, their tribute to some of the masters who contributed so much to the film world.
As a dedication to the legends who left the film world, a package entirely comprising of the films of Venu Nagavally, Girish Puthancherry, M.G. Radhakrishnan, Cochin Haneefa, Sreenath, AdoorPankajam, Azeez and Mankada Ravivarma will be screened in the IFFK.
‘Lal Salaam’, the Mohanlal -Murali starrer hit film of 1990 directed by Venu Nagavally which had won critical and economic appreciation will be screened. Girish Puthencherry, the venerated Malayalam lyricist’s memories will be brought alive with the screening of ‘Vadakkumnathan’, for which he wrote some astonishing lyrics. The name M.G. Radhakrishnan brings serenity to the minds of the music lovers. Manichitrathazhu , with the magnum opus work of this great music director will be shown as a tribute to the great musical maestro.
Hydrose and Balu, two characters of the film ‘Kireedam’ were made immortal by Cochin Haneefa and Sreenath. ‘Kireedam’ is also listed in the homage section of IFFK. Many actresses came in but no one could dethrone Adoor Pankajam as the mother of Malayalam cinema. Her most noted work in Ramu Karat’s film ‘Chemeen’ will reappear in the big screen as homage to the great women in Malayalam cinema.
Mangada Ravivarma was known for his association with Adoor’s films. ‘Swayamvaram’, the film for which he did cinematography was widely viewed. The same movie, directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan will be the highlight of the category. The film ‘Aval’ directed by the famous director Azeez who changed the course of Malayalam film making will also be exhibited in the category.
Altogether, this year’s IFFK is sure to be a memorable treat to the Malayalam film industry.
