The fire of freedom

“The spirit of independence”, the package of IFFK is devoted to African films bearing the imprints and passion for freedom. The honest desire and sincere attempt to break the shackles of colonialism and cultural aggression is the basic essence of the films in the section. Reality portraying films of Burnett is the main attraction of the package. His films like ‘Killer of ship’ and ‘To sleep with anchor’ will be screened.

The films of Burnett can be equated to the neo realist films of De-sica. Burnett willfully derails the very definition of aesthetics by changing the treatment according to the story thread.

Billy Woodberrys ‘Bless their little heart’, 1991 feature award winning ‘Daughter of the dust’ and ‘Rosa Parks’ of Julie dash will reach the audience. These films are a paradigm of how culture and tradition can be beautifully incorporated in a movie. The real attraction of the section will be Haile gerima’s ‘Harvest 3000 years’ a much debated and well- conceived film transgressing the conservative norms in storytelling.
